World’s largest Orthodox iconostasis at Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest
A giant Orthodox iconostasis, measuring 23.8 meters in length and 17 meters in height and with an area of 407 square meters, now sets the new world record for the largest Orthodox Iconostasis, according to the World Record Academy.
The iconostasis, the wall of icons and religious paintings separating the nave from the sanctuary in an Orthodox cathedral, is found in the National Salvation Cathedral under construction in Bucharest, Romania, which will serve as the patriarchal cathedral of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
When completed, the cathedral will also feature the largest mosaic collection in the world, of more than 25,000 square meters.
