Today is Renewal Wednesday, the first Wednesday after Holy & Great Easter Sunday.
The Church today venerates the memory of Irene, the Great Martyr.
St. Irene suffered torments and punishments for her faith, but was preserved by the power of God, while working miracles and converting thousands of souls.
She reposed in peace in the city of Ephesus in the first half of the 4th century.
